How do you like your geese?

I am making a start at finishing my Stitch Tease quilt.  Since starting it and deciding the size of it, we have had a new bed which is half a metre (almost 20 inches) wider than the old one, so there has to be a sizeable border added.

I did a bit of searching t'interweb and decided on flying geese, but flying out rather than round.  I think they tie in well with the pinwheels on the quilt.   Now I'm not so sure.

Round.....

.......or out?

I put these on instagram the other day, and the vote was 4 for round and 3 for out.  For out I need to make 120, for round I need 276!  This will not influence my decision...... honest!

So tell me, which do you think looks better

  1. Round!!! And I think my vote should count for at least 3!

  2. I like round but would piece them with some blank strips to break them up, I think a solid border of round geese might be too heavy on the eye when you have so much negative space in the rest of the quilt. The ones flying out remind me of prairie points and are less domineering. However for some reason I still prefer the round geese.

  3. Sounds like Tammy has it all figured out for you. I'd listen to her.

  4. I agree with what has been said above :-)

  5. I think round too, and Tammy is making real sense about breaking it up a bit with negative space :o)

  6. Yep - what Tammy said! Birds of a feather stick together and all that :)

  7. I like the out - as Tammy said they make me think of Prairie Points too. Having said that, Tammy's suggestion of breaking them up the "round" geese with negative space sounds genius - I think it would tie in with the Quilt top so well.

  9. I'm still for the out. I think they would frame the quilt nicely while leaving even the smaller pinwheels in focus.

  11. I voted for out before and still do, but then I read Tammy and I really don't have the foggiest now because she really makes sense!

  12. I would do out. They will look like geese, I don't think they will look like prairie points. And I think I get as many votes as Hadley. Or you could do round for the top and bottom and out for the sides?

  13. Ha ha, I don't usually have so many people agreeing with me especially all you "experts" as I only seem to be able to finish one quilt a year myself! Looking forward to seeing what you do!

  14. I'd say OUT, but think they're a bit tiny in proportion to the rest of the blocks, so I'd try a few half as big again to see how they look. x

  15. I like both, but if you do them out it's going to be a very narrow border!

  16. I think I prefer the round. Can't wait to see it when it's all finished!

  21. I like out. The round doesn't seem to fit with the pinwheels for me. But, like Helen said it would be a very narrow border.
