Sew, Mam, Sew Giveaway Day

!!THIS GIVEAWAY HAS NOW CLOSED!!

Welcome to my first giveaway in the  the biennial Giveaway day at Sew, Mama, Sew and if you're visiting for the first time, thanks for popping in to my humble corner of the blogging world!  Unfortunately I don't have any mega-sponsors, so I'm offering a little something I made.

Earlier this year, we had a holiday in Vietnam, and I bought this little bag

which I thought would be really pretty made in some of my own fabrics.   I don't have any qualms about copying it, as most of the things on sale there are fakes anyway!  Calvin Klein, D & G, Rolex, they're all there. Come to think of it,  it's only right and proper than we get our own back a little!  Here's my take on the bag

It's a useful little bag,  good for holding all your sewing bits and bobs, as it opens out to let you get right down to the bottom.   It would also make a good travelling sewing bag, as it closes quite securely. I've also used it as a going-out-in-the-evening-holding-my-lippy-and-keys bag.

If you'd like to win this bag, then please leave me a comment.  I'd like to hear about your worst sewing habit.  Apart from being a very untidy sewer, my worse habit is not putting pins back in the pincushion as I take them out.  There's always a huge pile by my machine, which takes me twice as long to untangle and put back into the pincushion!
As I have been hovering around the 90 followers mark for quite a while now, it would be really good if I could make that illusive 100 followers.   So for a second chance to win, please become a follower and let me know you have, or that you already are of course.  If I hit the 100, I will offer a second bag, which I will make especially for you, to your colour scheme/design etc.  I am quite happy to ship internationally (well I'd have to really - as far as I know I only have 2 czech readers!).

The giveaway will stay open until 10th May, 5pm PST, wherever that is in the world, and 'll announce the winner before the 12th May.!  I'm not sure how I'm going to do the draw.  Last time I had a giveaway, the cat did it because I couldn't make the random generator work, but I'll have another go this time!

And finally, you really must hop over to Sew Mama sew to see all the rest of the giveaways.  Thanks for calling in, and good luck in the draw.

  1. You shouldn't say you copied...you were inspired by the other bag ;)

I am a very chaotic, ADD type sewer. Too many projects, not enough time to clean up. And my instructor in a class was very concerned about the way I held my rotary cutter. I think she was afraid I was going to slice my finger off. I'd say all of these qualify as bad habits!

    ReplyDelete
  2. I have a tendency to not put my fabric pulls back in my stash for at least a few days!

    ReplyDelete
  3. What a cute bag! Let's not discuss all my bad habits in the sewing room...I have great difficulty keeping my fabrics straight on the shelves!

    ReplyDelete
  4. The bag you made is very nice. Thank you for your first giveaway. That is a pity I ´m one of two Czech readers.
My worst sewing habit? I do not communicate during sewing and my sewing place stays for very long time untidy.

  7. Following your blog! My worst habit is flinging thread onto the floor, eventually I (or my chair) get caught up in it - as much as I hate it, I seem to do it without even a thought :/ Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Gorgeous bag! My worst sewing habit...not putting anything away and ending up with a terribly messy sewing room.

    ReplyDelete
  9. That is a great little bag. I'd love to win.
My worst habit is thread flinging - even when I just hoovered!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Oh yes, my worst habit is thta I chew the end of my seam ripper so it is all gross and yucky! (and always in my mouth when I sew).. I need to stop this habit....

  12. my worst habit is throwing threads on the floor and then they clog up the vacuum. oops.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I was going to say exactly the same thing as you re the pins so let me think of something else - leaving the iron on all day? throwing threads on the carpet - I am a very messy sewer! Thanks for the chance to win - very cute!

  14. I have tons of terrible habits in sewing. But I am pretty sure my worst one is not measuring correctly and getting in a hurry.

    ReplyDelete
  15. My worst habit is tossing the cut threads onto the floor, usually next to the trash can.

    ReplyDelete
  16. My worst habit is using the arms of the settee as my pincushion - and then walking away and forgetting all about it! Fabulous bag, love the colours

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm a messy sewer and I drive myself mad! if only I cleared up as I went along!!!

  22. The little bag looks so useful, I have a few messy habits, thread ends everywhere, tiny scraps of fabric from paper piecing sticking to everything. I can never find things, as I always put them somewhere safe.

    ReplyDelete
  23. My worst habit........hmmm.....I hate to cut blocks down to the right size. Very often the blocks are different, I should have checked it out better and been more carefully before I sew!

  24. Thank you Dianne for sharing that beautiful bag, which looks also very practical! I don't know what is my worst sewing habit ... I try to leave myself to be a messy because I used to be too organized and lost all the sewing time organizing and fixing my sewing place. x Teje

    ReplyDelete
  25. I follow you by Bloglovin. x Teje

  26. That is the cutest bag, and it would be perfect to hold my hand sewing!

I tend to hoard small amounts of fabric, so I've got these little bag of odds and ends tucked all over my sewing area. Being organized is something I mean to do, really I do, but it just doesn't seem to happen! :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Cute bag! my worst habit is my general untidiness, which means I can nver find things, and i get really annoyed about it!! :o)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I am a follower anyway, but not i've made it official through google reader! :o)

    ReplyDelete
  29. I am messy, but I always tidy up...I don't know what my worst habit is...I never prewash fabric...but that's up for discussion. =) Thanks for a chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  30. My worse habit is sewing over the needles. I just forget until its too late!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I am follower 102!! Congrats

    ReplyDelete
  32. My sewing table is also our dining room table. So my worst habit is working on sewing things without totally clearing the table of everything else first.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am following via bloglovin

    ReplyDelete
  34. You made a lovely bag! I love the colors you choose. My worsdt habit... I tend to sew without pinning, if possible

    ReplyDelete
  35. Holding pins in my teeth, apparently it's not good for them.

    ReplyDelete
  36. My worst habit is letting all the little threads I snip fall where they may while I sew. My husband always laughs when he comes home to find me covered in thread!

    ReplyDelete
  37. I have a really bad habit of trimming threads and just chucking them to the floor. My poor black lab that lays in my sewing room usually ends up wearing a lot of them!!! He then proceeds to track them all over the house and I find threads in every nook and cranny!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am a brand new follower!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. That is a smashing wee bag. Amy's comment above could have been written by me.!

    ReplyDelete
  40. And I follow you - good luck in reaching your 100.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love your inspired bag. My worst habit is leaving thread, bits of fabric and pins laying around.

  43. What a gorgeous little bag, perfect for FQR! Love the colours as well. Thank you so much for the chance of winning it.
As for my worst sewing habit, I always sit on my chair slightly askew (looking like a banana, really) which gives me a back and neck ache after a while. Oh, and I'm super messy.

    ReplyDelete
  44. My worst habit is buying stuff for a project waiting to do it and doing a different project and then coming back to it.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I follow you with feedly. Thanks again.

    ReplyDelete
  46. my worst habbit - not having a pincushion at all. No maybe it's more not finishing what I've started.

    ReplyDelete
  47. New Bloglovin' follower - I feel like I'm on the Newlywed Game... My husband would say it's not putting things away. :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. My worst sewing habit is loving to make quilt tops but not getting around to adding backing! I have 2 that need finishing. I'm using the fact I have a baby in the house as an excuse...but I don't know how long that'll be a viable excuse!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Great giveaway rationale!
My worst habit is not reading instructions properly; I am such a bloody know-all!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Lovely bag and it looks just perfect in blue.
Hmm, my worst sewing habit would probably be leaving fabric laying around until I finish a project. And I sew in our living/dining room, so you can imagine how it looks if I work on several projects.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm your follower of course.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Congratulations on making over 100 followers, I am already one from before.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I also leave my pins by my machine, in fact there are a few there now, I also do a leave a lot of the little strings just fall to the floor and it takes me a little while before I pick them up.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I love this bag!
oh.. a bad habit... apart of the ones you just mentioned (yes, despite having 3 pincushions I still leave the pins on the table by the machine...) I always misplace my scissors. I think I'll make a little apron with pockets to carry all the tools with me...

    ReplyDelete
  55. trying to help you to reach 100 followers, you're nearly there!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I guess my worst habit is putting off getting started. Once I get rolling, I'm good but it's taking that first step that gets me bogged down every time.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Your bag is beautiful! I love the colors!! Bad sewing habit?? Hummm....... not clearing off the sewing table. I always have scraps or something on top of the table which makes it a little difficult to do much sewing.

    ReplyDelete
  58. My worst sewing habit is to start new projects before I finish the one I'm making. Your bag is beautiful; thanks for the chance!

  59. I think you did a very nice job of copying the bag you bought. It would be great to use to takk along Hexie sewing! I get fabrics out to select for a project an don't put them away right when I'm finished with them. That makes my room rather messy! I'm getting better now that I have a new bookshelf for storing fabric. I am a new follower now via Google Friend Connect! Thanks for the chance to win! TamiChaulk(at)gmail(dot)com

  60. What a generous giveaway. Thank you for participating in the Giveaway Day. One of my bad habits is starting too many things without finishing them.

    ReplyDelete
  61. You are over the 100 mark. Congratulations!!

    ReplyDelete
  62. My worst habit is making UFO's instead of finishing my projects.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Yeah, the pin thing I do that also but to make it worse I tend to do it barefoot. I also have a habit of just leaving things where they fall and not bending down to pick them up so there are little pieces of thread and fabric on the floor that get tracked all over the house.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I have a tendency to avoid ironing, even when I know I'd get a better result.

    ~K

    ReplyDelete
  65. I don't like to start a new project while I have one unfinished...this seems like a good policy but if my current project is time consuming it just sits there until I am motivated to get it finished. I just buy fabric in the meantime...:)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Oh I love your bag and the color is just my style....Thank you for your giveaway!!! I hate to admit it but my worst habit is putting the pins in my mouth...I know I'm bad!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. My worst habit is never keeping a trashcan by me, so all my cut threads get thrown in a pile... and undoubtedly at some point I knock it off the desk and all over myself/the floor...

    ReplyDelete
  68. When I unpick seams I never remove the threads so then when I resew there are threads sewn in everywhere! It looks so untidy and takes me 3x as long to pull them all out.. oy -- great bag!!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I am a sewing wannabe:) I just stalk blogs looking for all of the things I "could" do but never commit to anything! Thanks for the giveaway! Amy @ gasudimack(at)sbcglobal(dot)net

    ReplyDelete
  70. Worst sewing habit has to be sewing over pins. Bad I know. Thanks for the chance to the cute bag.

    ReplyDelete
  71. My worst sewing habit - dropping cut threads on the ground! One of these days my vacuum cleaner is going to rebel on me! Thanks for the giveaway for such a cute bag!

    ReplyDelete
  72. My worst sewing habit is not completing a project before starting another- wouldn't be a problem except the UFO pile is HUGE.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Very cute bag. Hopefully you get to 100 followers.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I will add your blog to my blog reader!!!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Worst habit is letting the bobbin get too low because I don't want to stop. Hope your Follower count goes up, I'll help and sign in.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I follow you through google reader!

    ReplyDelete
  77. I don't put back fabric when Ipull it out and don't use it.

    ReplyDelete
  78. What a great design! Thanks for sharing! Happy to be a new follower!
    colorvibrant[at]gmail[dot]com

    ReplyDelete
  79. My worst sewing habit is to leave thread pieces on the floor, because then I have to pick them up by hand so they don't get caught in the vacuum!
    colorvibrant[at]gmail[dot]com

    ReplyDelete
  80. Um, bad habit of brushing thread strings off in the floor.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Immfollowing you on blog lovin !

    ReplyDelete
  82. My worse sewing habit is buying to much fabric...especially as I have tons

    ReplyDelete
  83. When I am done sewing, sometimes leave everything out. And there it stays until I feel like organizing. Sometimes it takes a month or two before I deal with it. It is easier to knit than to clean my sewing area :)

    ReplyDelete
  84. Great bag, I love the blue fabrics you used! I think the bag would be perfect for carrying around my sock knitting. My worst sewing habit is thinking that something will take "just a couple of minutes" but realistically it'll take 30, hence I get frustrated and have to redo things!

    Thanks,

    ozknitter AT gmail DOT com

    ReplyDelete
  85. oh, I have to admit, I have the same problem with my pins... Thanks for a chance to win! julia.glotova (at) gmail (dot) com

    ReplyDelete
  87. My worst sewing habit is leaving unfinished projects laying around. Right now I have four in the family room alone.

    ReplyDelete
  88. What a cute bag. My worst habit is getting all excited and starting something new instead of finishing my WIPs.

    ReplyDelete
  89. This is a lovely bag. You did a fantastic job. My worst habit is throwing thread on the floor when I snip them. Need to work on this. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  90. I am the worst at trimming my threads as I go, so when I'm done I have a finished object...with about 48329482930 threads hanging off it. Thanks for hosting!

    ReplyDelete
  91. What a great bag! My worst habit is definitely not pressing. I hate hate hate ironing and rarely press if I can get away with not doing so!

Thanks for the chance to win! (stephmabry-at-yahoo-dot-com)

    ReplyDelete
  92. I don't worry about squaring up my fabric, which has inspired strings of cuss words while sewing more than once! Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  93. I get in a hurry and misplace things. I'm always hunting for scissors or a seam ripper, and I have several of each!

    ReplyDelete
  94. I have become a follower, I love your work and will be looking around some more!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Hello from Minnesota! I recommend a magnetic pincushion - it really saves trouble! My bad habits include starting too many projects as well as pointing out mistakes in my finished works.

    ReplyDelete
  96. My biggest issue is not staying organized so I can never find anything when I need it... a bag like this would help!

    ReplyDelete
  97. I followed you on bloglovin!

    ReplyDelete
  98. My worst sewing habit is not using pins to hold things together. Yup, it makes most of my sewing a bit wonky!

    ReplyDelete
  99. Ooh I love this! My worst habit is cutting things out and then not sewing them. Thanks for the chance!

    ReplyDelete
  100. I would have to admit that my worst habit is that I don't put things back in their place so the next time I need it I am always searching in my sewing boxes and shelves to find what it is I'm looking for!

    ReplyDelete
  101. My worst habit is chucking things all over the floor. Oh, and I hardly ever remember to change my sewing machine needle!

This wee bag is super cute, thanks for the chance to win it x

    ReplyDelete
  102. My worst habit is leaving my embroidery scissors on the coffee table, where my husband is bound to find them and try cutting something completely unsuited for my prized snips! On the machine, I'm bad for leaving my can of snipped threads on the very edge of the table where it waits precariously until at least 3/4 full before raining all over the floor.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I'm a very messy sewer and don't put things away when I'm done which makes my sewing room quite a mess. I usually have 5 projects going at a time so that also creates a bigger mess. Not enough time in the day.

    ReplyDelete
  104. My worst habit is seeing something new and wanting to make immediately.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I follow you on bloglovin.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I become a follower on Bloglovin. I really love your little bag too. Was it hard to copy?

    ReplyDelete
  107. My worst sewing habit is that I don't through away my bits of thread as I sew - I just pile them on the table beside my machine and I end up with a mess.

    mcclelland@sympatico.ca

    ReplyDelete
  108. Worst habit - not changing the rotary blade cutter often enough. Thanks for the great giveaway! Love the blue!

    ReplyDelete
  109. Cute bag! Worst habit is not using the little bobbin organizer I have and leaving long threads coming from the spool which makes a mess in my bobbin drawer and on my sewing table.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Hmm my pins and thread just dumping in thec sewing kit.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I would love that bag, thank you for the chance to win it. I have a lot of worst sewing habits, I don't put the pins in the cushion, I don't pick them up when they fall to the floor, I use the rotary cutter blade for weeks after it is due for a change, I put the scraps in a bag and seldom remember to sort them into their colour bins so they don't get used, and i am really messy. But I have great fun so that must count.

    ReplyDelete
  112. And of course I follow your lovely blog, and I see you are up to 114 followers now, how wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  113. This is a super cool bag! I really want! My worst habit is accidentally going off the edge of my cutting mat with my rotary cutter! Oops! No big deal right? Unless you are cutting on your lovely dining room table!

    ReplyDelete
  114. My bad sewing habit is scraps everywhere when I'm sewing. Realy realy messy!

    ReplyDelete
  119. I'm terrible at not putting away fabric I've had out for projects. Not great as I now sew in a very open part of the house so the whole place gets messed up! Love the bag.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I follow you through my feedler reader.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I always seem to loose my scissors. I tend to leave them in a project box and the forget which box they are in! Cute bag thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  122. my worst habit is sewing over my pins. I know it is a no no but it makes my seams so much more accurate!

    ReplyDelete
  123. I love your little tote!My worst habit is misplacing my scissors! Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  124. i love this bag - adorable and useful, too!

i honestly have too many bad habits with sewing - i don't clear off the table; i pile things on and then when i have five minutes to sew i just shove everything to the side (and this is already a very cramped space!). i don't always put pins back in the pincushion as i'm sewing, and then i step on them later! i don't always put scraps in the appropriate places.

but i sure love making things!

thanks for the chance to win.

  133. I throw my threads on the floor...I know, I know, shame on me!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  135. My worst habit is too lazy to sort my scraps.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I have to be really tidy when I sew. I don't have a space of my own to sew and my toddler will break anything I leave lying around, so I have to clear up before I go to bed every night! However, I have started throwing threads on the floor as my thread pile always ends up there anyway! And I never put my fabric away properly, I just stack it up in the spare room until it topples over!

    ReplyDelete
  137. I don't put away things quickly after I buy them, so I set my new fabrics on top of the sewing machine.. not a good habit!

    ReplyDelete
  138. I'm bad with pins, too. But now that we have Molly the Cat, I've become better about it. The idea of her accidently swallowing a pin makes me shudder.

    ReplyDelete
  139. I tend to put pins in my mouth as I'm pinning my fabric. Not a good habit and really not safe.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I LOVE this bag, the colors, the shape, everything! My worst sewing habit is not cutting straight, which causes a lot of other problems as you can imagine!

    ReplyDelete
  145. I am a follower, but you knew that. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  146. I'm a VERY messy sewist -it is a completely chaotic mess when I'm in the middle of a project. But I choose to focus on the fact that when I finish a project & have a big tidy up, I really appreciate the cleanliness & order. Thanks for the chance to win, your bag is lovely & the patchwork is really gorgeous.

    ReplyDelete
  155. I'm definitely disorganized, and I have a bad habit of not pressing things when I'm supposed to.

    ReplyDelete
  156. I dont check the bobbin thread before I start sewing. I run out in the middle of projects all the time. booooo

    ReplyDelete
  157. Worst habit, not putting my patterns and leftover fabric away until there is no more room to sew.

  158. Not sewing specific, but my worst crafting habit is to work on something and then leave my table a mess - or to briefly stop in and drop something off on the table, so in order to work, I have to clean up first. :( Thanks for the giveaway!

  160. Wow - that bag of yours looks so professionally made! I am a sewer who hates to measure. I always eyeball things then of course they turn out crooked.

  162. Great bag! My worst habit is my general untidiness. So I have fabric everywhere, several projects mixed up, pins all over the place and the floor covered with threads and cut off pieces of fabric

  163. My bad habit is starting too many projects and having so many wip I get overwhelmed deciding what to work on next! So then nothing ever gets done or finished.

  164. I follow you on google reader if that counts?

  165. I'm a newbie sewer so I'm not sure I have too many bad habits yet. I do tend to drop threads though.
Thanks for the chance to win your lovely bag.

  169. I put pins in my mouth, or leave them next to the machine. Seriously Sarah, how hard is it to use the pin cushion!

  171. Ha! you want to know all our secrets : ) Well, my bad habit is using bent, rusty pins and odd sewing needles that have found their way into my pincushion. I also do not bother to snip ends carefully and when wearing home-made items I am forever snipping off dangling ends : )

  172. I am following on Bloglovin too

  173. I don't always cut up my scraps directly after finishing a project, which leaves me with several bags full of scraps and half a day of cutting after a while.
    Thanks for the chance!

  175. I hate to admit it but my worst sewing habit is procrastination, I have so many works in progress, that it seems that I never get anything finished. I adore your beautiful blue handmade bag.
